After a super successful eye surgery camp on the island of Nias in Northern Sumatra, I made my way back through Tokyo on my way home. Of course, I couldn’t resist spending a few days in Japan getting my “fix” at my “second home.” To start things off, I spent the night at the ryokan in Narita City near the airport that I’ve been staying at regularly since 1985! Then, I headed to Kamakura for a couple of days. The last time I visited this city, famous for the Great Buddha, was back in 2002 when we went as a family. And guess what? It was just as great as I remembered - and so was the Hasedera Temple and its beautiful gardens. After that, I took a quick walk over to Enoshima Island and then it was back to Asakusa - another favorite Tokyo neighborhood - filled with beautiful kimono-clad visitors everywhere I looked. The next morning, my two-hour bus ride took me to my next destination: my annual pilgrimage to Lake Kawaguchi for the two-day Kjazz Festival with the majestic Mt. Fuji as the backdrop - the autumn leaves as vibrant as the music. This was my fourth said pilgrimage! Another amazing trip!
